With all the buzz over this summer's Disney hit "Maleficent", I felt extremely inspired to add my personal flare to the mix. There are so many elements involved with Angelina Jolie's character that could be emulated into an evening look. Lets start with the most powerful of them all, the makeup. For Jolie's look, Disney brought in Seven Time Academy Award-winning special effects designer Rick Baker. Baker began immediately with a digital painting of what he thought Maleficent's look should be. "Personally, I thought for Angelina Jolie, you didn't really want to do too much to her. For me, it was maybe horns and ears. I pretty much left her face alone," says Baker.
To start off my Maleficent Inspired look, I spent an hour in front of the mirror perfecting my makeup LOL. No, but seriously, I really wanted to capture the energy from the Disney Classic "Sleeping Beauty" that I so love + the Maleficent look Angelina Jolie simply SLAYED. I really honed in on what I loved from each (elegance, power, darkness) and then just let my imagination run wild.

The outfit inspiration broken down:
-Maleficent reminds me of dark beauty- so the look had to be something you could wear in the evening!
I wore the "Make Your Move" bodycon dress by Tobi (www.tobi.com). It gave the perfect feel of strength & beauty that I was searching for. I believe every girl has something in her closet or jewelry box that you can use to play costume dress up with. I didn't want to go to the store and find pieces that I could use for this, the idea was to make it effortless. I had 2 items that worked in my favor: a gold horseshoe from one of my specialty bandanas I sell on Bleed Like Me (www.xxbleedgoldxx.com) & a beaded fringe necklace I that I had from Forever 21. The rest of the jewelry & clutch I had in my closet as well!
I photographed with Julianne Schapery of Eye Design & her and I were so in love with some of the locations we found! One of which was this wicked tree that reminded me of the thorn bushes from the movie!
To really pull the look together, I had the perfect Maleficent cell phone case I got from the Disney Store for relatively cheap. It will be my new summer #selfie steez ;) ...No look would be complete without the right pair of heels. I wore the Jeffrey Campbell "Oil Slick Lita" which brought out another magical element to the outfit!
I put together this look the day before I went and saw the actual movie- mainly because I wanted to be inspired not recreate exactly like a costume.
I was so impressed with Jolie's performance, beauty, & grace. She is such a powerhouse in all of the roles she chooses & this one was absolutely fitting for her! I had the best time creating a modern twist on such a mysterious Disney villain.
